Picture the small town you’ve seen on TV a hundred times: the friendly sheriff, everyone at church on Sunday, the kind of place where people leave their doors unlocked.

Then Sheriff John Dell is murdered, and the town is ready to pin it on the first convenient name and move on.

Aaron Tanner, the deputy sheriff stepping into Dell’s place, isn’t willing to let that happen.

Push past Main Street, and everything is already coming apart. Gangs and drugs running through the county. A resort deal dividing the community in two. And inside the department meant to protect it, people who want this investigation to end before it really starts.

It becomes clear that Dell knew exactly what evils had taken root in the mountains outside town, and spent years covering it up. But the deeper Aaron digs, the more of a target he becomes for looking too closely. Aaron came to Mapleview looking for a fresh start. He didn’t expect to spend it uncovering another man’s sins while dragging up his own.
